We don't like to recognize unpleasant truths about ourselves. But, whether we like it or not, certain things are true. Part of being a responsible, mature, intelligent person is to accept certain truths when we discover them and respond accordingly. Our survival depends upon it.
For example, we may discover that we have a fatal but curable physical illness. We may not want to believe that we are ill and we may not want to seek medical attention. But, denial is not going to make us well. Failure to turn to a competent doctor will result in death. This is the reality of our situation whether we wish to accept it or not.
The Bible tells us that we all have a spiritual illness. We are all sinners.
- "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
(Romans 3:23)
It is not hard to see that we live in a sinful world. Murder, theft, greed, deceit are all around us.
But, what about you? Have you ever lied? Have you ever taken something that did not belong to you? Have you ever desired sexual intimacy with someone who is not your spouse?
The same Bible which is correct when it tells us that we are all sinners also tells us that there is a consequence of that sin.
